Members of AccountingWEB continue to reflect the mood of the nation by shifting towards the Conservatives as polling day nears.

Our first poll during the early stages of the campaign gave the Tories a healthy 15% lead, but this was spectacularly overturned following Lib Dem party leader Nick Clegg’s showing in the first live TV debate on 15 April. In our second poll, he raced ahead to grab a 48% share of the vote. While still retaining the lead as the campaign entered its final days, the Lib Dem tally fell to 39% with the Tories recovering to 30%. Labour remained in fourth position with 5%, behind the Green Party with 11%.

In a separate opinion poll organised among small businesses by School for Startups and our sister site BusinessZone.co.uk, 43% favoured the Conservatives, 15% chose the Liberal Democrats and only 9% said Labour.

Taking account of Labour's feeble showing, the AccountingWEB poll has reflected the shifts tracked by the larger opinion polls published by more mainstream news media. In what is shaping up for the closest and most complex election for a generation or more, help us predict the outcome on Thursday by casting your vote in our final pre-election poll.

Here's how opinion has shifted during the campaign:

AccountingWEB poll results 14/4 20/4 31/4
