As part of its annual Pulse market research survey, Sage questioned 178 business people and 198 accountants to investigate the relationship between advisers and their clients, and how it has been affected by the economic downturn.

Accountants are a key source of business advice
Only a third of businesses are using their accountants purely for core accounting services and management accounting
98% of clients are likely to remain with the same accountant in two years time; however accountants need to re-think the services they are offering i.e. business advice, providing them with an opportunity to offer more value-added services
The top three things clients have asked accountants for advice about in the past six months are tax matters, accounting and bookkeeping and new legislation/regulations
46% of accountants say the internet is a major information source
