Campbell wins Lib Dems tax vote. By Dan Martin
Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell has won a crunch vote over his plans to reform the party's tax policies.
Campbell saw off opposition to his call for the scrapping of the party's long term commitment to increase the top rate of income tax to 50p in favour of taxes targeting the environmentally unfriendly.
During a heated two hour debate on day two of the Lib Dems' conference in Brighton, delegates voted in favour of ditching the long term commitment to a 50p tax on the highest earners, a policy with which they fought the last general election.
