Carousel fraudster given record jail sentence. By Matt Henkes
A man who was responsible for a £54m VAT fraud scam has been jailed for 15 years, the longest ever sentence handed down by a British court to a carousel fraudster.
The decision follows a six year investigation and two criminal trials.
At Worcester Crown Court, Judge McCreath described Emmanuel Hening as the "guiding hand" behind a crime which has seen eight people jailed for a total of 38 and a half years.
Hening, who has dual French and Belgian nationality, was found guilty on three counts of 'missing trader' fraud following his extradition from France in December 2005.
