Charities repeat demands for tax credits amnesty

The Child Poverty Action Group restated the "urgent need" for an amnesty of tax credit overpayments after Tony Blair apologised to families that have suffered financial hardship and distress as result of system failures and Revenue errors.

Responding to a Commons statement by Dawn Primarolo, CPAG chief executive Kate Green said the Paymaster General "needs to go further and act faster".

Green added: "CPAG welcomes the extra money that tax credits have brought and the efforts the government has made in tackling child poverty, but the administrative problems over the recovery of tax credits
