Deloitte launches tax website for mobiles
The UK tax wing of Big Four firm Deloitte has created a tax website to cater for smartphone users.
Deloitte's new uktaxmobile.com site is a stripped down tax news and reference service optimised for smartphones. It includes weekly bulletins on business tax and VAT, podcasts, tax tables and longer articles.
The firm said that uktaxmobile.com opened up a new way to communicate with clients. While the embryonic site does not boast a huge amount of new material, the potential is obvious – for Deloitte clients and those interested in tax issues. “As smartphones become increasingly popular and a key communication channel, Deloitte’s web application offers instant access to the latest developments in tax,” said the firm’s head of tax David Sproul.
Uktaxmobile.com isn’t so much a smartphone app as a no-frills website optimised for viewing on iPhone/iPad, BlackBerry and Android smartphone browsers. The currently available content includes:
- Weekly business tax and VAT briefings in PDF format
- A collection of Inside Track tax briefings
- Podcasts covering topics such as PAYE, capital allowances, subsistence rates and international developments such as the IMF paper on bank taxation
- Current year tax tables and those for 2009-10.
The simplified uktaxmobile.com interface works well on a mobile, but is slightly clunky when using a more fully featured web browser. The companion www.taxpublications.deloitte.co.uk site hosts similar material – and more in a more comprehensive, searchable database.
