Scottish footballer Maurice 'Mo' Johnston will see a pay cheque from the BBC handed over to the taxman in two weeks' time, unless he appeals a decision made yesterday by Glasgow Sheriff Court.

In an 'action of forthcoming', the court granted HMRC the right to seize US$1794.80 owed by the BBC to Johnston, who in turn owes the Revenue £449,692.89 in back taxes.

The sum of US$1794.80 has been arrested in the hands of BBC Scotland's contracts department and will be paid over to HMRC after 14 days (at yesterday's exchange rate), unless Johnston appeals.

The former football star was not present to hear the decision. His last known address was in Kansas USA, but the court heard that he is currently believed to be in New Jersey USA, although his exact whereabouts are unknown.

The Revenue declined to comment on the case, besides confirming that: 'HMRC have an outstanding debt from a Maurice Thomas Johnston'

Wow
About 0.23% of the debt recovered? Wow! Wonder how much the legal action cost.
