Government scraps council tax revaluations
Council tax bands in England will not be revalued before 2015 the government has announced.
Properties are currently taxed under one of eight council tax bands depending on value, and the rates were last reviewed in 1993.
Revaluing the bands could push 7 million households into higher tax bands because of the increase in house prices, according to some reports. Local government secretary Eric Pickles said the decision to postpone the revaluation could save the average household as much as £1,600 throughout the lifetime of this parliament.
