HMRC amends PAYE regulations to allow electronic P60s

HMRC has announced that it will change PAYE regulations to allow the use of electronic P60s from 6 April 2010.

“One of the main advantages of eP60s is the decreased burden on the payroll department in reissuing duplicate P60s when requested by employees,” said Karen Thomson, associate director of policy, research and strategic visibility at the Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP).

Although they come into effect on 06/04/10, the regulations themselves say that the change in respect of electronic P60s "shall apply only in relation to the tax year 2010-11 and subsequent tax years."

Therefore, P60s for the current (2009-10) tax year, which will be given to employees in April/May, are still required to be on paper.
