HMRC’s Agent Update: Summer edition

HMRC has published its latest edition of ‘Agent Update’.

The online publication is not for the faint hearted – just the summary of its contents runs to over 10 pages but nevertheless accountants may find it invaluable to wave at clients; ‘This is why we charge so much, YOU try absorbing all this!’

The publication is pretty heavy going, with sections split into tax and services and online updates.

Is this backward, or is it just me?

Please note that we have reinstated the facility to print Self Assessment Returns in PDF format. The PDF contains a declaration page, which isn't provided within the HTML version. However, the new PDF printout will not be accepted by HMRC if submitted as a paper Tax Return.

Will it all end in tears?

Yes - the Revenue (like many other organisations) appears to be putting all of its eggs (information) in one basket with far too much reliance on computers and the internet. One day it will all go horribly wrong.

How much have they spent so far on the IT for SA Online? How many software houses have they used?

How many errors have you spotted whilst using SA Online?
