    10% Compression Ratio

That is true, and I have got a programme that allows scheduled compressions, but it still leaves me with an 8Mb file for a couple of very small companies.

What is the advantage of SQL? MY problem with Digita products is the large size of the data back up files. is this anything to do with SQL?

If you compress the file afterwards e.g. with winzip it will be about 1/10th its original size.

    Iris is streets ahead

Sage might be a bigger company than Iris and it might have a bigger marketing budget and no doubt this is why it was mentioned first when it came to you listing software providers. However having grown up with Iris over the past 18 years I have no doubts that it will be out there in the lead when it comes to introducing the new standards. From a users point of view I know that Iris Accounts Production and the rest of the integrated family will come up trumps, due in no small measure to the way that they treat their customers - they listen and react. In this day and age you cannot say this about too many suppliers.

Having read your glittering review of Iris, I have to say that I believe you have overlooked something. We looked very closely at Iris before selecting Digita for our Tax and Accounts Production systems. We felt that Iris in particular were quite some distance behind Digita from a technology point of view. They are now only talking about releasing a SQL version of their products on a select roll out next year. This will be a very difficult task for them to do especially when trying to maintain their integration to their non SQL products. All of the Digita products are already on SQL and we have been delighted with both the ease of use and the functionality that they provide. The long term view was key for us and I know that we have made the right decision.
