Norwegian ERP software developer Mamut has extended its Mamut Business suite with the addition of a £99 payroll module.

The Mamut suite is notable for providing not just financials and stock, but customer relationship management and HR functions for as little as £299 a licence. According to Mamut's Alan Moody, payroll was a logical extension.

Mamut Payroll is a rebadged version of Intex's Ernie Intro application. "HR is a very complex area, and a valuable asset to have in your software, so we teamed up with a partner who talks to small businesses," said Moody.

With Intex concentrating on keeping the software up with regulations and the latest requirements such as online filing of year-end PAYE returns, Mamut has taken on responsibility for online and telephone customer support for a £9 fee per seat.

Mamut Payroll will handle up to 15 employees' records and allow the user to make payments in house. The application also handles statutory sick pay, materity/paternity pay and all the associated printing and filing requirements.

"Many small businesses and start-ups choose to outsource the payroll function as it is often considered a complex and time-consuming task. Mamut Payroll is aimed at small businesses that have grown to a size that requires a payroll system and is designed for users with very little financial knowledge. It makes the process manageable in-house and gives more control and visibility over the payroll function," said Moody.

With the move to online filing, Moody reported that the company has had a few enquiries this year about its payroll capabilities.

With Mamut Payroll bundled into the £499 Enterprise 3 version of Mamut Business, he pointed out that a company wanting to claim the £825 incentive for e-filing could get not just payroll, but an entire ERP suite and still have £7 left over after VAT and supporat charges.
