Newth Talks Tax: HMRC investigation
Peter Coskin raised an interesting and important query in his posting of 17 January 2008. He had completed a VAT investigation for a client and submitted a disclosure report to HMRC. The client paid all but about £1,800 of Peter's fee. However, the client is being sued for the remainder of the fee, and this is taking time to go through the courts.
Peter still had all of the original client records, plus the workings for the calculations needed for the report, including the total amount of VAT under-declared.
