Online filing now allows attachments. By Nichola Ross Martin
HMRC have announced that from 1 November 2006 you will be able to submit an online attachment with your online Self Assessment return.
The idea being that this will let you supply more information in support of your tax return entries and so will directly relate either to information:
1. That you have entered in the 'Additional Information' box of your return, or
2. that is necessary to support other items in the return, such as CGT valuation details and claims for relief.
HMRC do not want to be swamped with attachments though.

PerTAX, Filing with attachments
For those of you who use PerTAX:
On 27 September, we received approval for e-filing with attachments in PerTAX v11.20. This version of the software will allow you to attach PDFs, and will fully validate the file type and size before the filing process.
The Government Gateway will be able to receive attachments from 1st November; the moment this happens, we will release v11.20 to all PerTAX sites.
It is worth noting that MYOB recently released a new application called PDF Manager: PDF Manager is a simple, cost-effective solution that allows you to:
Produce and manage PDF documents
Combine multiple documents into a single PDF file
Re-order and delete pages
Save directly to Viztopia Practice Management or to a directory structure.
These features help ensure that all your client working papers are easy to find and understand. When combined with PerTAX, filing of returns with attachments is close to effortless.

pdf manager looks nice
although there are a few competing products out there.
I clicked on the link to see how much it cost, and lo! no price is mentioned (although it clearly isn't free, nor would I expect it).
What is it with some suppliers that they have a morbid fear of publishing their prices? Do they think we are more likely to buy if we have to go to the trouble of asking for the price first?
This explains a lot
Since yesterday I have not had one Return accepted, and there has been a lot of dont time on the Self Assessment section of th HMRC site
online filing chaos
It is not much good HMRC saying we now send attachments with SA returns on line when today i cannot even send any sa forms to them. The help line says they are aware of problems caused by the recent up grade and they hope to have the system working again shortly! Does not bode well with deadlines looming

hip hip hurray
..or so we hope
