Payslip for July payments on account
The provision of copy statements to agents twice a year was withdrawn in 2008 following a review of security procedures, during which it was established that HMRC's process for producing the statements was not sufficiently secure.

I agree
Personally I don't use the paper versions as I prefer to check online. I know that HMRC are still looking at reintroducing paper copies when they can sort the issues, but I'm sure that after so long without them even the most die hard would rather that the money is spent on something more useful. What do members think?
Summary schedules
The full statements - carefully packaged in large jiffy bags as I recall - were a waste, but it was useful to be able to flick through and check for anomalies.
A better solution would be a single summary of amounts due at 31/7 for all clients - probably online (those still preferring dead trees can print it off).
paper payslips
I agree paper statements are a waste of my tax money and trees.
I would like however to download and retain statements en masse. These provide an ongoing record. I certainly agree we should receive details for those expecting to make a July payt on account.
Paper Statements & Payslips
I agree the agent copy statements were a waste of time although I did file them in the clients' files, it took ages and was a pain. Prefer to check online when the SAR is prepared. The payslips surely are for the client to print if required. I never pay a client's tax liability.
Actually...
I like to have the paper copies, twice a year, filed on the client's file. Elderly clients ALWAYS lose theirs and the payslips, and it is SO useful to be able to provide a solution for them. Also useful to check back at anomalies as mentioned before. I may be a dinosaur, but when it comes to protecting both practice and client I prefer the tried and tested ways.
I liked receiving the statements
I, too, liked receiving the six-monthly statements. They were quicker and easier to flick through (to spot oddities) than opening up every client page online. At least a quarter of my clients lost their copy of the statement before they were ready to pay so I used to send my copy out when I confirmed the amount to pay. Most clients who do not already use online banking like to pay at bank or Post Office rather than trust to the post, so that was where the copy statements proved very useful. A proper Bank Giro slip online would be more use than the one intended to be sent by mail. If we are to save trees, which I do approve of, then HMRC needs to meet practitioners needs better - for example the payment slip could be more multifunctional by including the information on payments which used to be on the back of the statements rather than simply referring to the website. That way practitioners could send something far more helpful out to clients - something which would cover all payment methods on one sheet.
they did not get shredded
and were particularly useful in providing additional payslips to use over the bank counter.

Inland Revenue bank details
I can not understand why Inland Revenue is using Citi bank? Haven't we got a good solid bank in this country to use?
Payslip for July payment
I agree that a six monthly run for all clients is rather wasteful but also agree that the payslips were useful.
Virtually none of my clients pay their own tax liability; it is paid usually from funds held by investment managers thus on line payment is not possible.
Could not the payslip be included in the statement printable on line. This could be the best of both worlds.

Where is this downloadable payslip??
Agent statements a waste of time, paper and resources. Much quicker to check a client's details on web. But, for those clients without a payslip (not many but they do exist) just where is this downloadable payslip?? Nobody has yet provided a link, not even your article, and searching HMRC site is fruitless.
Here is the link to download a payslip.
Someone complained that he was unable to locate where he could download a payslip.
The following link will resolve that situation http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/sa361.pdf
Happy now colonel? I also see that there is now a link in the original article.
the downloadable payslip is useless except as a last resort
Payment over tyhe bank counter especially if a number of payments are being made at the same time is far easier than BACS. At least that way the clients own cheques can be used.
I would never trust HMRC with a direct debit
The link was there all the time
But maybe the new "blue" instead of orange made it less obvious
By the way, we're collecting votes on statements to pass on to HMRC. The poll is on the home page - scroll down a bit (yes, yes, I know it irritates some....but we couldn't do quick polls like this without the new site).
Please vote - HMRC have already said they will be very interested in the results.
Absolutely agree about a summary
It would be so useful to be able to log in and get a print out of non-zero balances for all clients, rather than have to go thrugh one by one.

Why have agents' copies anyway?
My personal opinion is that the twice yearly agents' copies should be done away with permanently. What an absolute waste of paper. The client will have their own payslip to use. If that's been lost then they/the agent can download the HMRC payslip. Or they can make payment online. And the agent has access to the clients' statements online. I am sure that with the vast majority of agents, their twice yearly copies went straight in the shredder.
