The Chartered Institute of Taxation has announced the appointment of new officers with effect from 10 May.

Peter Kempster, currently deputy president, will succeed John Beattie as president.

Kempster is a fellow of both the CIOT and the ICAEW, and a solicitor. He is an adviser at Nabarro Nathanson in London, specialising in the taxation and finance of property investment, property development projects and property fund structures.

John Cullinane, the current vice-president, will become deputy president. He is a member of the institute's technical committee and has been a council member since 1997.

Cullinane is a partner at Deloitte where he leads the banking & capital markets tax group in London, specialising in corporate and international tax.

Robert Ellerby, director of national tax training at Ernst & Young, will become vice-president.

Ellerby has been a member of the CIOT's council since 2001 and is chairman of its education committee.
