TAX NEWS: More families overpaid in tax credits. By Dan Martin
The number of families being overpaid in tax credits increased during the 2004/05 financial year although the total amount being paid out dropped, the government has confirmed.
Data released by the Treasury revealed 1.96 million claimants received too much in tax credits in 2004/05, with £1.8 billion being paid out.
During the previous year - 2003/04 - £2.2 billion was overpaid in 1.88 million of claims.
