HMRC has dismissed the requests of two-thirds of families to have tax credit overpayments written off even though the Revenue was responsible for the errors, the BBC claims.
According to the broadcaster, the main reason the government department has given for the decisions is that claimants should have spotted the mistakes in the first place.
As a result, thousands of families face having to repay large sums of money back to HMRC.
