TAX NEWS: Thousands still to meet PAYE deadline. By Rebecca Benneyworth
Although 700,000 PAYE returns have already been filed to meet the May 19 deadline, if last year's total is to be matched a further 230,000 returns would need to be submitted this week, new figures reveal.
Employers trying to file their online returns have been frustrated by very slow response times from the HMRC system. The delays are affecting employers using HMRC's PAYE online service and those using third party software.

Online submission deadline
Having spoken to the Inland Revenue today, they have received guidelines that online filing can now be accepted up to 26th May, extending the deadline by 7 days.
Hope this is of some help.
Use online forms

Download the forms online.
If you are anywhere near London SW19 you can collect them from me.
I would have expected you could get them from your local office if you talk to the right person.
PAYE Collection Refs
Rob
Thanks for the extention deadline details. Now if we could only get the HMRC website to accept our files or the help desk to answer the phone I could get some sleep.
------------------
I have ascertained that if a PAYE collection ref is less than 13 characters the submission will be rejected - Help Desk advise that if less than 13, add leading zeros.
Thanks to Rob
I've just checked out the 7-day extension - which is confirmed on the HMRC website - but Rob beat me to it. Many thanks!

All very well but......
I have been trying to file my returns online for the past fortnight, but the "submit" button is missing from the P14 pages, and can't submit P35 until P14s submitted. Phoned the helpdesk numerous times to be told it must be my settings - yet still doesn't work from my mum's, dad's or brothers' computers!! Still awaiting another suggestion from them as to what the problem could be. Also tried deleting and re-entering all employees.
In the meantime, have left it too late to get the paper forms to file the old way, so instead of £250 will probably get a fine!
Any suggestions gratefully received!!!!!
Louise
29th May
The filing deadline is extended by 7 days by ESC B46 - but this year will be extended to 10 days - see:
Planning ahead
I try to have all my clients set up for online filing but there's always an extra few who come along at the last minute so I order the forms to be prepared.
Midnight filers beware...
From HMRC website (pre crashing):
"PAYE Online
Tuesday 16 May
Due to a planned upgrade this service will be unavailable between 22.00 and 04.00.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause"

Thanks for info
Spoke to local office this morning and they told me about deadline extension to avoid penalties, but also said I would miss out on £250 unless it was in on time. Fortunately HMRC site says I get my £250 anyway, assuming they manage to sort it out at some point.......
Thanks
Louise
