The Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise have announced that their existing websites will be closed down during the weekend, ahead of the launch of the new HM Revenue and Customs website on 18 April.

The new site at www.hmrc.gov.uk will combine the information and online services previously available at www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk and www.hmce.gov.uk.

Redirects will be in operation. HMRC will provide a feedback facility, and asked visitors to use it "in the unfortunate event that a 'favourite' does not work".

HM Customs and Exise
HMCE's existing website, and the eVAT and NCTS services, will be unavailable from 9am on Saturday 16 April.

The following e-services will continue to be available: New Export System, Duty Deferment Electronic Statements Service (DDES), EC Sales Lists (ECSL), Tied Oils Enquiry Service, Rebated Oils Enquiry Service and Electronic Binding Tariff (eBTI), Intrastat, and VOES.

Inland Revenue
The Revenue announced that in order to complete the transition its existing site will be unavailable from 8pm on Sunday 17th April. It apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Tax, tax credits and child benefit services will remain available via the following links, the Revenue said:

After the launch on 18 April, all these services will all be accessible from www.hmrc.gov.uk

HMRC will be launched on 18 April along with the new independent prosecutions office, the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office.

The Commissioners for Revenue and Customs Act 2005 received Royal Assent on 7 April, and the Treasury published the Chancellor of the Exchequer's first "annual remit" sent to David Varney, the chairman of the new department.

What ‘genius’ decided that this time of the tax year was a brilliant time to place extra pressure on staff who are already deeply over-worked/under-resourced, by changing the website arrangements now, and also accidentally messing up the secure email system?
Still once Michael H is running the show he’s going to sack all those surplus civil servants sitting around waiting to collect pay cheques for sod all work etc……. so that should fix everything.
