TaxCalc.com has signed up for BASDA’s new green charter to help increase awareness of the environmental benefits of filing online. Despite an increase in online filing, paper returns still accounted for over half of the UK’s tax returns in 2008. To address this, TaxCalc will be working closely with the BASDA to highlight online filing as a low carbon alternative.

A part of BASDA’s green charter, TaxCalc.com will be demonstrating its commitment to sustainability by working with BASDA to investigate ways of increasing the carbon efficiency of its offices and engaging in the debate around green ICT including measurement, reporting, data requirements and standards via BASDA

TaxCalc’s CEO, Tracy Ebdon-Poole comments, “There are 9 million people completing tax returns each year in the UK. If everyone filed electronically it could save 9,128 tonnes of CO2 by eliminating the unnecessary travel and congestion caused by postal deliveries and also decrease pressure on the world’s forests TaxCalc.com is committed to the Green Charter and wants to be part of a low carbon self assessment solution”.
