Software developer and reseller Armstrong Consultants has ranked 17th in the 'Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For' 2007 list. Lucie Benson reports.
The list is formed following a comprehensive survey of employee opinion, and takes into account the views of nearly 30,000 employees from 348 SMEs. The questionnaire assesses staff opinion on factors such as leadership, training, work/life balance and personal growth opportunities.
Armstrong was commended for retaining a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with results from the survey showing that 85% of staff felt they could talk openly and honestly with senior managers and 89% have confidence in the senior management team of six directors.
The organisation was established in 1993 and has offices in the north and south of England. There are 64 employees in total and staff turnover is 11%. The average length of service is five years and employees feel they are offered plenty of opportunities for career progression.
Chris Bayne, Armstrong’s managing director, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and we are delighted. Our people are at the very core of Armstrong and staff satisfaction not only creates a great atmosphere to work in but increased productivity and service to our customers.
"Taking the time to listen to our staff and ensuring that everything we do is a team effort has always been a guiding principle for Armstrong,” he added. “We strive to recognise and award our people for their achievements and the contribution they make to the company. Some members of staff have been with us for over 10 years, and this commitment and strong work ethic has played a massive part in our continued growth and success."
