With an AccountingWEB Working from home seminar scheduled to cover tax and technology issues in Liverpool on 23 October, we put forward a few useful suggestions for home workers from Business IT Guide.

Four home working essentials

1. A stable broadband internet line: This is the most important item you need as a home worker. Video conferences will not stutter, file transfers will be zippy, and your productivity will not suffer.

2. A comfortable desk: And a good chair. These furnishings make working less stressful and more enjoyable.

3. A webcam and a VoIP phone: Actually seeing the person with whom you are having a conversation can transform the communication process. Furthermore, a VoIP phone will cut your communication costs drastically.

4. An all-in-one printer/scanner: a multifunction device combining a fax, printer and scanner is a prerequisite for any home worker who wants to run a productive office.
