Dascom rolls out SAP Business ByDesign
SAP’s web-based Business ByDesign software application has had a torrid development history. Once touted as the brave new hope that would deliver 100,000 new customers by 2010, it took somewhat longer to bring to market than anticipated. By this point, it has probably achieved one thousandth of its original target.
But in recent weeks, users such as Jonathan Gurney from German printing company Dascom have been coming forward to tell other SAP customers about their experiences with SAP’s Cloud ERP suite.
Business ByDesign is pitched at the bottom end of SAP's customer pyramid, catering for mid-size companies with 100-500 employees that are looking for a complete system for a modest price. The other opportunity is for subsidiary companies to roll out the online application and link back to the existing SAP infrastructure at head office. Work is underway to construct a bridge between Business ByDesign and its big brother, MySAP, but no date has been set yet for its release.
For a starting price of around £97 per month, SAP customers can get Business ByDesign starter packs for CRM, ERP or professional services environments. For a 10-20 seat system, the ERP edition would take around six weeks to implement and cost around £25,000, while the Professional Services version has a fixed price implementation fee of £34,900.
Jonathan Gurney, vice president for finance and IT at Dascom says that ByDesign has the potential to do great things for the company. With just 75 staff, the firm still has all the complexity and ambition of a larger enterprise.
