Danish Cloud accounting software developer E-conomic reported that it had gained 14,500 users for its free iPhone app.

One day after E-conomic launched its free iPhone application, the company says it was the eighth most popular app on iTunes, ahead of Facebook and Angry Birds.

The iPhone application was suggested to the company and created by one of its customers, E-conomic CEO Torben Frigaard Rasmussen told AccountingWEB.co.uk. He also risked the wrath of rival developers by claiming it was the most fully integrated accounting smartphone app.

“We are out to change the world of small business,” said Rasmussen. “We truly believe the world is going mobile.”

Contrasting the E-conomic iPhone program with other accounting apps, he continued: “With our app you can do everything: you can look up customers and add new ones, create and push out applications and check available stock against an order. Some apps are one-way. Ours is two-way.”

E-conomic has a strategic roadmap to get to 35,000 customers and smartphone apps were going to help them get there. Around seven out of 10 of the E-conomic iPhone downloads were by existing customers, but the rest were new users who could try the online accounting facilities out for a trial period from their iPhones. If the company is able to convert a significant proportion of those prospects, it could add several hundred to its user base. According to Rasmussen, “several” UK customers have signed up as a result.

In the next quarter, E-conomic will add an Android app to its portfolio.

“We all know the mobile is here to stay and I’m glad to see customers are embracing it. In two years’ time, it might be a qualifier for accounting systems.

“People like to have data available at any time - who says you need to have a computer with you?”

Alternatives

Their November 8th blog posting suggests they are working on an Android version, but no other news of that on the site.
