Microsoft Compatability

I think how much you can do with a Blackberry depends on what model it is, i.e. how Microsoft/Windows compatible it is will determine what applications can be run successfully.

How much of Iris can be used, easily, with Microsoft CRM and Sharepoint will be I suspect influenced by the type of database technology the program uses and what legacy issues may be carried within that from older versions of the program.

As Microsoft Gold Partners, we do a lot with Microsoft CRM and Sharepoint for people, but remember these are not 'out of the box' solutions and good consultancy is needed to produce a good end result.

Combining these applications with our own Practice Management software, which is a true Microsoft SQL appliaction, is not a five minute piece of work, but for firms who are prepared to invest in something like this the end results are impressive.

We use the full suite of IRIS - can we get the practice management/crm aspect of it on our blackberries? How is it best to manage marketing activities after using the data mining capabilities ie track which cleints have been sent an invite to an event etc

Worth using microsoft dynamics crm or sharepoint????

CRM for Accountancy Firms – The basic essentials

CRM for firms doesn’t need to be complicated – it needs to do these essentials:

• Selective mailings to contacts/clients based on firm defined criteria
• Enables you to write to the right contacts at the right clients, using the right address
• To do emails or simply labels for the above instead of sending letters
• To record notes on activities with contacts/clients – with follow up actions where needed
• To share data with your Practice Management system – why duplicate client data?
• Make CRM data accessible to everyone and easy to use

We added a module to our Practice Management suite to do this based on what our clients in practice said they wanted a CRM system to do. CRM has been a popular addition for existing clients and a key driver for securing new business – as it seems to be for those using it.

Common sense? (as opposed to Frankenstein)

Joining up two vendor systems with different databases reminds me of Frankenstein - scary and dysfunctional. Therefore this debate merits some deconstruction, consider this key statement  from John's article..

"this is where standalone applications run into trouble in the practice environment. To use these systems, firms may have to transfer information from their existing systems - or input data by hand - and run the CRM application in parallel. The problem with multiple databases is that they are often badly maintained, or are only used by one or two individuals." 

As customers are defined as someone who pays money, then it's common sense the CRM and the Accounting system should be seamlessly joined up. This has been escaping the notice of vendors like Sage, Intuit et al for too long.

And If anyone is counting the hours wasted every day by firms and their clients using and maintaining dispirit systems such as Sage and ACT or Salesforce Quickbooks integration, then I hope you'll think twice (as long to do everything) before even considering buying a standalone CRM system (which the vendor swears will work with your accounting).
