Millennial generation motivated by tech
Management consultancy Accenture recently studied the computing habits of 400 young Americans and discovered that this "millennial" generation has strong feelings about technology that is being overlooked by employers.

Hold on - this is the tail wagging the dog

Oh well that’s all right then - why don't we apply this concept to the community at large:
- motorists ignore speed limits anyway so let’s abandon all speed limits
- burglars ignore the law so let’s rescind the crime of burglary
(it's pretty much come to this stage anyway with the current government)
In today’s economic climate the statement '..state-of-the-art technology was an important consideration in selecting an employer..' is questionable. Surely today it is going to be about taking what is on offer rather than dictating terms to a prospective employer?
This whole issue is a matter of balancing expectation with reality and Accentures study is totally out of touch with today’s climate
Being a student is all about rebellion with rights and few actual responsibilities. Witness the resulting uproar when employers (& univerity officials) turned the tables by starting to use social sites for checking prospective applicants and found all manner of indiscrete postings. This naivety is acceptable as a student but not in a commercial environment where the damage caused by indiscretion could be far reaching - reference the underlying culture surrounding all the recent episodes of personal data loss?
Employees on the other hand have to operate within certain parameters which are deemed to be in the best interests of the employer and their clients. Any new technologies need to be assessed on their merits and not have a blanket acceptance because they are regarded as trendy or their advocates are either not aware or choose to ignore the implications; to suggest that IT managers are not already cognisant of these challenges is the difference between rhetoric and accountability (see final para)
Regrettably one of the downsides of these social sites is they encourage indiscretion (abuse) with no concept of the ensuing fall out
