Opinion: Why aren't there more accountants in IT? By Tim Lennard
Year on year the number of accountants in the UK increases. Statistics from the ICAEW show that 3,672 students registered during the year 2004-05, compared to 3,276 students in the year 2003-04. This is an increase of over 12%, and yet it is not reflected in the number of post qualification opportunities in the profession. Thus it represents a potential surplus of talent.
Why then must all qualified accountants become accountants?
