Public Sector Wheels Turn Very Slowly

Transparency is crucial and better achieved with networked systems.

Although the government record on successful computer systems is rather patchy, the most efficient way to record, track and control people, costs, revenue and other key data is through use of the correct software and IT systems.

We have been monitoring the progress of a government paper on improved record keeping, but this process has been slowed down even more by the recent elections. The publication and implementation of such a policy document could be another very small step in the right direction.

However budgets are there to be spent, otherwise next year's budget would be reduced. (a surplus would only generate questions) With too much transparency and scrutiny in place, it would be all too obvious why so much of a yearly budget is spent between January and the end of March...
