Marketing is not a luxury, just essential!
I'm a bit confused by the sentence "Marketing is not a luxury, but a low-cost solution to the development of any business". This almost suggests that that you could get away without it. Surely every organisation needs to define where it is going, and make sure this direction is properly articulated in plans that identify and develop those things that make it significantly and profitably different over time? That's a marketing plan.
I agree with John that this article provides a start, and that there should be more mention of things like networking. I'd add to that it should mention the growing importance of using resources like AW itself, and posting and blogging. These are regular ingredients of guerrilla style marketing, where you can get significant results using free or low cost resources plus some time and effort. Good marketing doesn't have to be about spending big budgets. I'd recommend you spend a few pounds on "Guerrilla Marketing for Consultants" by Jay Conrad Levinson and Michael W. McLaughlin - it's cheaper than some of the resources mentioned above, and will give you some good material and ideas.
