Softworld ZoneSeasoned Sage-watchers may feel a sense of d©j  vu, but the UK market leader will be bringing a new application to Softworld on 3-4 March.

Called Sage MMS (Mid-Market Solution), the application first saw the light of day last year, when it was introduced as the successor to the company's Line 100 accounting and commercials suite. Following feedback from resellers and customers who based specialist applications based around the old code, Sage went back into the marketing lab and carried out a "rebranding exercise" on the new product.

Sage MMS now sits alongside Line 100, in a pattern that is becoming common among mid-market developers. Keen to embrace new technologies as they emerge, the twin-track approach means that they can keep hold of users who are quite happy with the tools they have.

Users in the market for modern features and functions will be interested to see how Sage MMS takes advantage of the Microsoft .NET platform, which was a key part of the product's development. The release includes financial and commercial functions and includes routines designed to cater for users trading up from Sage Line 50.

The tools that were used to create the application make it easier for Sage to integrate MMS with its new "vertical" applications such as Sage Construct and Sage Manufacturing. And with the adoption of .NET tools, the technical boffins at Sage have indicated that they are ready to base MMS on Microsoft's SQL Server database - which will make it easier to link the program to others within Microsoft's .NET-based business application framework.

Sage chief technology officer David Karlin commented, 'We've taken our time with the research and development of Sage MMS to make sure we get it right. Close consultation with customers throughout the development period and incredible attention to detail has, I believe, resulted in a product that is, quite simply, the best mid-range accounting and business software on the market today."

Already resellers and third party developers are responding to the new product line. Manchester-based Innov8, for example, has collaborated with mobile communications specialist AppSwing to devise a front-end that enables users to access Web-based Sage MMS screens via PDAs and Smart Phones.
