As has been said before Sage is a marketing company and should stick to what they know rather than writing software

Any company that claims to take 22,000 support calls a day and thinks this enhances their products is deluded - surely this just highlights the extent of their problem - claiming zero (0) support calls a day would instil far more confidence

It can only be hoped that the next version of Sage's new web based system is a success. We'll see. The prominence of Sage means that it would help a lot of people if they get it right. But there's no knowing when (or if) that will happen - as others have noted, it's difficult for a software vendor steeped in the traditions of packaged software to switch mindsets and engineering principles in order to develop for the web.

It has also been noted that a lot of online accounting solutions have emerged over the last 12-18 months. Some have suggested that not all will survive - probably true and a major concern for accountants. However, there are proven solutions in the SME space - "proven" in the sense that there are ten's of thousands of people all using the same solution and it has been around for 5-6 years. This is mature software that can be relied on.

When considering the pro's and con's of online accounting, see What Accountants Say About Online Accounting - they face the same issues that concern you and they can speak from experience.
