If ever you are stuck for things to do for an hour or two, you can always rely on the Microsoft Office website to offer up an interesting selection of learning aids.

Users of both current versions of Excel are catered for with separate pages: Excel 2007 help is here, while the Excel 2003 page remains unchanged.

Among the growing collection of Excel webcasts is a recording of an online session by Stehanie Krieger, a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional and self-confessed "die-hard document geek"

Her 90-minute tutorial discusses the kinds of charts found in what she calls financial pitch books, and includes sections on price-volume charts and bubble charts, as well as a discussion of pivot tables and pivot charts.

Kreiger's Arouet.net website includes a blog on Office-related topics, plus an archive of further articles, links and online tutorials.

Krieger's financial pitch webcast session is one of hundreds that are now running on Microsoft's TechNet, which typically puts on three to five sessions a day - the June calendar gives an idea of what's available.

There's one minor drawback. Most of these Microsoft productions take place and are recorded using Microsoft LiveMeeting, so you need to install Windows Media Player version 9 or later and use Internet Explorer 6.0 (service pack 1 or later) totake part or view them later.
