XBRL conference: Flash in the pan, or reporting revolution?

The 14th International XBRL Conference took place in December in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the city where US revolutionaries signed their original declaration of independence. Jay Hammond reports

The organisers repeatedly told participants they were witnessing the start of a business reporting revolution. Only time will reveal the truth of that statement.

XBRL in the Netherlands, and threat to Accounts Production vendo

Over here in Europe, The Dutch Taxonomy Project, adopting XBRL as the standard for government reporting is well advanced. Some aspects went live on 1/1/2007, and more come in on 1/1/2008. Consequently, the Dutch providers like Twinfield are having to get their act together on XBRL now and during this year.

One interesting by-product that doesn't seem to get noticed is the threat XBRL causes to the accounts production providers. If accounts preparation products add full XBRL capability wouldn't that remove a lot of the need for additional software?
