West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has gone live with a financial management solution to support the merger of three ambulance services into the newly formed Regional Ambulance Service. CedarOpenAccounts’ (COA) eFinancials solution was implemented in an aggressive two month timescale and will help the Ambulance Service reorganise as part of the Department of Health’s drive to consolidate services and create a patient-led NHS.

Serving around 3,250 people, the West Midlands Ambulance Service is an amalgamation of Hereford & Worcester, Coventry & Warwickshire, WMAS and Shropshire ambulance services that merged in July 2006 to form a regional ambulance service.

The contract was won in competition with Agresso, IB Solutions, FD Systems and Infor. The COA eFinancials financial management solution will unify financial operations from the former Ambulance Services’ three separate systems. eFinancials was selected because of its extensive finance services, cost effectiveness and COA’s commitment to meet the implementation timescales. Netstore is providing a managed service for the NHS Trust.

Wendy Owen, finance team project leader of West Midlands Ambulance Service comments, “eFinancials will allow the West Midlands Ambulance Service to consolidate all financial management onto a single system covering operations across a widespread geographical area. It will allow our managers to view information easily and result in more efficient use of resources. We were impressed by COA’s understanding of our tight timescales and depth of knowledge of our requirements.”
COA will also be supporting the West Midlands Ambulance Service’s plans to merge the Staffordshire Ambulance Service in 2007.
