About this episode

To celebrate our debut AccountingWEB Live Expo on 1-2nd December at the Coventry Building Society Arena, we've launched Expo Talks. Over six episodes, we’ll cover the core themes at AccountingWEB Live Expo, and talk to some of the speakers who will be previewing their sessions and revealing what they'll be covering.

In this final episode, we look at Change - what can the accounting community do to help make a positive difference to the UK economy, to be an example to the clients it serves and inspire its teams to be the best they can be. 2021 was the year that accountants helped UK business survive. How can 2022 be the year accountants help UK business help the planet survive?

We look at the change in mindshift required from UK accountants to embrace change before looking closely at the challenges laid down by COP26 and how accountancy can be part of the solution.

We'll discuss energy and carbon reporting and the finance team’s role in net zero. How will this hit home in 2022 post-COP26 and what can you do to not only get your clients ready but get them caring?

We'll also look at what a firm needs to do to truly change - from the services it offers its clients to the mindset it requires to want to be part of the solution. What responsibility does an accountant have in 2022 and how much should it hold its clients accountable?

To discuss these topics, we're joined by two experts who'll be speaking on these topics at December's Expo.

Julia Penny is the principal of JS Penny Ltd which provides technical and training consulting on anti-money laundering procedures, auditing and financial reporting. Julia is a member of ICAEW Board and Council, chair of the ICAEW Ethics Advisory Committee and past chair of the ICAEW Technical Advisory Committee. Currently Deputy President of the ICAEW, Julia has written passionately for AccountingWEB on energy and carbon reporting and the finance team’s role in net zero.
