Beat Blue Monday: happiness is an inside job

Monday, January 17, 2022 - 13:00 to 14:00

You'll hear from:

Beat Blue Monday with this special wellbeing episode of AccountingWEB Live

It's that time of year again.. Blue Monday is the name given to the third Monday in January, widely acknowledged as the most depressing day of the year. Following the challenging events of the last two years we want to do all we can to support the accounting community and help you remain healthy through self assessment. For this special episode we will be joined by Armadillo's Gordon Berry for a wellbeing focused special episode.

Gordon is a Chartered Accountant (FCCA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and also a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic-Programming and is also trained in Mindfulness and Hypnosis and a number of other esoteric practices. He has seen first-hand the impact that stress can have. Accountants face a potentially very stressful environment with demands, deadlines, penalties, clients' financial worries and challenges, clients' different individual personalities, becoming a stress and marriage counsellor to clients, managing a team and all that brings, and somehow through it all trying to make a profit and take care of your family. But who is taking care of you? Isn’t it rather important that we take care of you first, so that you are then better placed to help others?
What would it be like to have a happy office environment, happier clients, less angst, more time, more productive days, reduced stress and reduced anxiety, peace of mind and a bright future?

In these days of mental health and anxiety and stress, no one else is better placed than Gordon to understand and offer insights. Pleasantness within, pleasantness without, isn’t that what we desire he asks?

An experienced and accomplished speaker, very knowledgeable in his craft(s), Gordon will take you on a journey towards better health, more happiness and peace, a better understanding of mental health and importantly, the tips and tools to empower yourself.

About Gordon Berry

An early interest in psychology was put on the back burner as he was encouraged to “do something more sensible” and follow in his father’s footsteps into accountancy. Gordon qualified with ACCA in 1994, then as a CTA in 2004 before becoming a Master Practitioner in NLP in 2007.

Gordon took over his father's CA practice after his father took unwell from stress. Gordon ran that business for seven years, building it up and modernising what was a very traditional accounting practice before selling it in 2009. His experiences and what he saw his father going through running a busy practice, working all the hours, taking on the problems of the clients and managing a team, has shaped what Gordon now does as he combines his love of accounting with his first interest & love of psychology to make sure accountants look after themselves first so that they are in the best place to look after their clients. Gordon is co-Director in Armadillo Academy along with Matt Hall CTA bringing soft skills training, improved mindset and wellbeing to accounting practices through the UK.
You may find Gordon’s take on wellbeing to be quite unique & stimulating and although it is likely to challenge the ‘norms’, it will empower you. Gordon’s focus is on empowering individuals to be able to take care of their own wellbeing & mental health and become self-reliant. If you are relying on someone else to come along and motivate you and take care of you, then you may have a long wait!
Much better to learn how to run your own head for success, for happiness & peace and for wellbeing. Gordon will demonstrate how we are all using self-hypnosis without even realising it and how you can turn it around and make it work for you.
