This screnario would appear to be one that the HMRC calculation does not deal with correctly - refer exclusion #70 at https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa....

Software providers will use the HMRC calculation, even where it gives an incorrect result, in order to pass eFiling validation.

Tax shouldn't be taxing.

Unfortunately, it's become an utter shambles. It's the ultimate stealth tax - just insist that every tax software package shows that you owe more tax than you really do.

HMRC seem to have given up on trying to get it right. MPs don't even understand that it's wrong.

Still - let's press ahead with MTD ......

My error, taxfiler was correct as I had forgotten about a small amount of interest income

Actually, there's a lesson here.

the software relies on you to put the right numbers in.

If it doesn't get the same answer as you, maybe it's you at fault.
