Our practice uses specialist software to file returns on line. However, there are circumstances when returns cannot be filed on-line (for example foreign pages) as a result of HM Revenue & Customs own software inadequacies. I would be interested to hear how other practices intend to deal with this - we still have lots of tax returns outstanding as client's have not sent in their information. It seems most "unfair" that clients may be penalised due to HMRC software problems. Many thanks

Partnership tax returns
I am correct. HMRC does not currently allow filing of partnership returns online via its own software. You have to provide your own software to be able to file these returns online. This is farcical!
Partnership returns?
We've been filing online for years! Where did you get that idea from?
It was a bit flaky at the beginning but has been fine for a few years now.
partnership returns
What about partnership tax returns? As far as I am aware the HMRC software does not allow these to be filed online.
Try it and see!
As far as I can work out, the best (maybe only) way to prove they are exempt is to try to submit online. If it doesn't go through, then you can submit by paper and appeal any penalty by showing the printout of the failed submission. If it does go through, then problem solved!
By the way, does anyone know the current position for non-domiciled people? I thought you could now file them online, but last time I tried there were still problems.
Not everyone is bound by the October Paper deadline
HMRC have said that they acknowledge that a small percentage will be unable to file online and for them the deadline is 31 January by paper.
We have had a few clients get letters with their ITR's saying they are exempt from the October deadline, though these letters were not personalised so not sure how you go about proving they are exempt...
