A foreign debt collecting solicitor?

How to go around finding a foreign solicitor

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all, looking for some pointers...

Background: I am an Accountant working in industry for SME, we are a manufacturing company.

Unfortunately we have got a significant bad debt from our EU customer, and it seems like we have no option left to collect this money. The legislation of this EU country allows to go for a director's own property in case the company is unable to pay so there is a hope for us if we engage debt recovery service. We will need a foreign solicitors to deal with that and I am at a complete loss in how to find one. Google of course is full of no win no fee adverts but I feel uneasy to just use the one with the slickest website...Can someone perhaps give me a pointer on how to go about finding a foreign solicitor dealing with debt recovery? I have researched actual process fairly well but just not sure how to find someone who will be dealing with it for us. (it will legally have to be a solicitor, we ourselves already taken all the steps we could)

Thank you, a responce would be much appreciated.

First port of call would be your existing UK legal advisors, who most likely have at least a network of local firms to refer work to.

If you do not have an existing UK legal advisor ... get cracking.

Is there some reason you haven’t mentioned the country? That might improve the usefulness of responses.

While freely admitting to knowing nothing about this whatsoever, I am willing to bet that the process of recovering a company debt via the owner's property will not be cheap, quick or easy so I would be looking for some sort of robust guarantee than this would not be good money after bad.
