I'm atheist and don't celebrate (if I could find a coven of witches to dance naked in the woods it may be a different story), so am I excluded?

You certainly are not from round here, the dancing naked bit is I imagine a touch on the bracing side once the temperature drops, as it has ,though at least mainly still above freezing at night, but I am only as far North as Edinburgh.

I know from doing my PG up in Aberdeen that there it will be a lot colder, especially with the wind cutting in from the East to Hillhead Halls, and presumably there are no witches doing naked prances in Sweden without a sauna as at this time of year it can readily be -10 during the day and -30 overnight.

Which is a good reminder to me to check if my A Web picture is the summer one or the winter one.

I’d say many who celebrate Christmas are no more religious than you. In fact I know a handful of people who manage to enjoy Christmas whilst being religious but following a different set of beliefs.

So excluded no - but not forced to partake either, if you don’t want to.

We also usually have Beltane in April if pagan festivals are your thing.

Seasons greetings to all, apart from checking the bank every day that is me effectively on holiday until January so if we do not meet before then also have a great New Year (though I think that is now a forbidden sentiment per Oor Nicky, I must get hold of a Sunday Post to see how the Broons are going to cope as they have always visited one another to see in the bells)

And a very merry Christmas to you too Lion. Thank you for all your help this year.

PS: I spoke to another accountant this week who said he was a member Aweb, neither of us mentioned our username but we both said Lion was our favourite. You're so much more appreciated than you'll ever know.

I'm assuming* Lion won one of the Aweb awards that were kicking around earlier this month.

Merry Christmas all.

*I somehow missed the announcement of the winners, so assumption it is. Dead cert though, same as Breach2 in one of the other categories.

I've assumed that too as I've not seen the results either. Perhaps later today or tomorrow?

I only wished Lion a Merry Christmas though,so apologies for that - Merry Christmas to each and every one of you.

It must be an AWeb Christmas game. Spot the results.

They have been up for about a week. In the articles section.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Ah yes... https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/practice/general-practice/community-awar...

So now I no longer have to assume. Member of the Year. A title any upstanding man would be proud of, rugby balls or no.

And no-one more fitting to start the Merry Christmas thread. (Interesting how folk respond to "Merry Christmas" with a confession of faith ("I'm an atheist*") but not to "Happy East Riding Day" with "I'm from Birmingham*".)

*For example.

Ah - winter's a bit of a low point on the County Day front.

Nothing between Bedfordshire and Caernarfonshire on November 28th and Shropshire on February 23rd.

And a Happy Christmas and New Year to you as well, Lion and everyone else on AWeb.

I'm also an atheist but it doesn't stop me from celebrating Christmas as a great family gathering. Anything for a turkey drumstick, me :)

Happy yuletide to the atheists. I'm agnostic so I get the best of both worlds!

Calculator down, mince pie in hand. Finished!

Happy crimbo to one and all. We celebrate a British Christmas in our house, despite being fully paid up atheists with family background from 3 major world religions. There have been winter festivals since the dawn of time. Christ is just a label stuck on it a few hundred years ago.

On the plus side this year we will be doing a lot less sitting in traffic, a lot less listening to Gamon relatives and how it was better in their day, and and probably a lot more sitting on the sofa watching duff films with the kids.

Now if only I hadn't got an office full of IT kit to put together by the 4th Jan I would have a proper break..............doh.

Merry Christmas Lion,

I too missed the awards results. Weren't they suspiciously low-key?

My 1954 Sportsview annual has an arbitrary article about Nat Lofthouse, the Lion of Vienna. I guess you too must have been a fellow centre-forward. Terrific sport!

Merry Christmas from an ex centre-forward and current flat-earther :)

Very belated (computer troubles which are hard to get fixed over Christmas/Tier 4 lockdown) so I will wish everyone a Happy New Year (fingers crossed) instead.
