A new party game being played at the Treasury?

Find the two least suitable adjectives that most people would apply to HMRC ...

Didn't find your answer?

... then use them to announce the title of "HMRC’s vision for the future".

Et voilà - we have "Trusted and modern: HMRC’s vision for the future" ... as 'delivered' by Lucy Frazer, Financial Secretary to the Treasury yesterday!

The full piece can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/trusted-and-modern-hmrcs-vision-f... ... but is not for those who need to control their blood-pressure, particularly as you see the puppy-like devotion applied within paragraphs on MTD and RTI (and others).

Indeed I seem to have stumbled on a new growth sector (at least within government) ... the creation of TAGs (Tarnished Acronym Generators), which leap out at you from the page.  Anyone want a spare SCA, or a STF, or a TAF, or ... hang I think I hear another one being born.

Of course, the 'speech' is only designed to be heard by the converted (or 'believers' as they would be known if it wasn't for the religious connotation) ... but I thought a few of you might like to dip into it from time to time over the festive season - you know if you feel your splenetic levels dropping off!

Listening and timely. Based on their attitude to any criticism of MTD and the months we have to wait for anything to be actioned.

For some reason ... reliable and helpful sprang into my mind (but then I always did live in the past)!

We know who spoke
We also know who wrote it

True ... I just wish there was any indication that those comments had been read (and understood) by Giles, Jim et al.

"So Helpful In Tax: HMRC’s vision for the future" would seem apt, or possibly
"Collecting Regular Annual Payments: HMRC’s vision for the future"

I've taken to calling them HMRCU.

You can probably figure our that the "C" is a male bird, and so you will know what follows.

Just as well that you've laid all the blame at HMRC's door and Not Treasury.

I particular enjoyed the customer service part, in part the Revenue appear not to be achieving their previous 'high standards' because of the impact of COVID/BREXIT/dealing with furlough pyts etc.

Yep you are the only ones affected and should therefore get the free pass.....and that's before we get to the real problems with that institution....

I think my two least apt adjectives would be "efficient" and "responsive."

Following on from SteveHa's comment, my personal opinion is that HMRC should be renamed "HM Fines and Penalties Service."

And following on from Hugo's line in the OP where he suggests conversion to MTD, the word that springs to my mind is "corrupted" by MTD. But then again, this is the political elite we're talking about here and corrupted has an entirely different spin there.
