I would like to ask if there is a proposal to improve the layout of Any Answers so that it is easy to revisit threads one has already replied to?
There have been a lot of interesting threads about lately, and it would be nice to easily look back on ones to see how they ended up.
Thanks!

Only way I know is to look at profile then press Answers button for threads, Comments for articles.
That works. The only problem is that if you suffer, as I do from time to time, from verbal diarrohea it can take ages to scroll back through the post history to find what you're looking for.
There are of course much better options - if you can put the developers to work?
A simple example would be to add one new option at the top of each thread for 'Follow' (after 'Like', 'Report', 'Quote') ... oh wait, you already have that option!
But I can't work out how it's supposed to operate.
Logically you could have one more tab on your Profile page for 'Following' - which, unlike the other tabs doesn't show your individual postings, but simply lists the threads you are following and so might want to 'short-cut' to?
[Note: fairly obviously you'd also need an unfollow option (to switch it off)].
Or a return to the old forums, that were easy to follow and keep up to date with.
Just saying.
Just spotted this, Tom. I agree with the two Pauls. Your profile is the place to go.
But why should you need to do that just to keep in touch with a thread you're interested in, or indeed just to see the latest replies you haven't already read on any thread?
There's a very simple fix. Make the titles non bold after being read with new replies and new threads in bold. See your sister site ukbusinessforum for a perfect example of this, also book-keepers.org.uk. This is the only forum I know that doesn't do this.
Similarly, you can search for threads you didn't contribute to; provided you can remember who one of the contributors was (by searching through their posting history).
Just thought I'd mention that to save you from a further 20 years of head scratching :)
What happens if you use "Anonymous" as the person whose post you wish to find?
Then you'll get a selection of David Price's posts!
My new screens arrived today, and I have to say DJKL that in large-screen HD that house of yours no longer looks very Scottish. The architecture looks rather Scandinavian, and is that a Volvo I see parked outside?
Tom's problem (slow on the technology uptake) has now infected me - actually I was way ahead of him in the first place!
But how do you find someone else's Profile (in order to view their 'posting history') - other than from the hotlink at the start of one of their specific posts? That works fine when you're in mid-thread, but isn't much use if you can't remember the name of the thread - and so want the Profile page of a likely contributor (in order to search for the thread).
Shades of Catch-22 ... or have I, hopefully, missed a trick?
Thanks.
I'm being particularly slow today, but that's hardly an intuitive format - although it certainly does the job! Does that mean there's no equivalent from within the site?
With "follow" you just get an email digest at the interval you select. It would be good to have a way to tag threads (such as ones you have contributed to) so you can keep up with them.
It would also be good to have a view which lists latest posts, rather than a list of the threads that have been most recently replied to.
But forums are old hat, lets all go on Twitter where we can have short closed questions and binary answers.
the search facility has always been poor and Aweb have been told on numerous occasions by many correspondents
Do whatever it is Justin does. He seems to be able to find an incredible array of old threads whenever he wants.
But there's so many alternative divining rods and dowsing rods out there - and I'm not even sure of the difference between them. Maybe I'd better order some entrails as well, as back-up.
It's generally best achieved by googling for
site:accountingweb.co.uk/any-answers [username] [some words from the thread]
then scan down the list of results for the one you're after, which you'll hopefully recognise by the title. I find it works much more reliably than the search function, which I really think ought to be replaced by a text box that does exactly the above for you.
