A small gripe

Do I have too much time on my hands?

Maybe I do have too much time on my hands but this is starting to really annoy me. I dip in and out of Accounting web every couple of weeks. Despite the new layout of the website, it does continue to be the best place to find out what’s happening in the industry. I particularly enjoy a good scroll through any answers however, I find the view all any answers button so irritating. When I click it I’m brought back up to the top of the home page, leaving me with no option but to scroll down again. Is it too much to ask to be left in the same position on the page and view more of any answers below?

I know Tom is good at getting back to us on issues/suggestions. What do you all think? Do I have too much time on my hands?

Its simply atrocious but they arent going to change it so you need to get used to it. A work around to your issue with ending up back at the top of the page is to right click and open the link in a new tab.

My biggest gripe is that you can get new replies in the middle of the page rather than at the bottom and that you cant jump to new replies. If anyone can offer a solution to that they can have a virtual gold star from me!

Thank you for the workaround MissAccounting. I'm with you on the new replies in the middle of the page. So frustrating!
Tom, are you listening?

Thanks for the question Counting numbers, and thanks for the workarounds MissAccounting and SteLacca!

As a 'power user' of the site, it's something I come across on a regular basis and has been raised as an issue with our senior management team.

It was set up this way for a reason, but given that this has been raised numerous times by our readers we are looking into how to change this.

Apparently it's quite a big job, so it's not something we can just switch off without breaking the site (that's about as technical as I get I'm afraid), but a change will be made in the near future - more when I know more.

All the best,

Tom

*edit - Re-reading the post I think I've misunderstood what you were driving at. Do you mean to say that on an individual thread you click 'view all replies' at the bottom and you're taken back up to the top? That doesn't happen with me. If I click 'add your reply' it zooms me back up the top.

Just to clarify my earlier statement - we're looking into switching off the 'view all replies' button at the bottom of individual threads that span 6+ comments.

Thank you for responding, Tom.

It is happening when you go to the 'Any answers' section of Accounting Web at the bottom of the homepage. If you click ‘View all Any Answers' in this section, you're brought back to the top of the homepage. I wasn't referring to 'View all replies' in a post, although that irritates me too. Before the upgrade, you could scroll through a post without having to click 'View all replies'. I would suggest that there is no need to have that option because the majority of people want to see all of the replies to a question that they are interested in.

While you're here Tom...

Another annoying issue with the mid-thread replies, specific to multi-page threads. When a new reply is added it is marked as 'new' so it's easily spottable by a quick scroll. But this only seems to work on page 1. Once you click on the button to bring up page 2 (and of course clicking 'view all' again!) the new posts on this page aren't marked as 'new'.

Which means that when a new reply pops up halfway down page 2, there's no way of finding it without painstakingly going through each reply and trying to identify the new one(s).
