A way around useless HMRC

A way around useless HMRC

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all

Client who required six years tax returns filing as debt collectors at the door.  All CIS so not a major issue.  Have filed all those returns that can be done online going back, and sent in paper ones were the deadline had surpassed.  Now the online returns are fine, determinations erased and replaced with actual figures however the papers ones are still showing the assessment, in turn showing the client owes tax.  On contacting HMRC agent line I was told they've no idea when the figures will be updated, could be 5 days or 5 months or even 5 years no doubt.

Therefore does anyone have any suggestions on a way around or do we simply have to wait for some tax admin bod get off their arse and sort the pile out on the desk and get things updated?  My firm are owed a sizeable amount for the work done (which would be duly taken from the clients rebate), however due to HMRC incompetence we're out of pocket.  Any one any ideas on how to speed them up?!!  AND why don't they allow any years returns to be filed online anyway?  Surely make things easier for all parties?!

You need to look

HERE and possibly also HERE. The years are out of time and you might only get the determinations reduced to tax due but not a refund of any excess CIS

Have I got this right?  Client has not complied with his obligations under S8 until HMRC came calling. Now he expects instant action?

Will they be processed?

Have HMRC confirmed that they are actually going to process the paper returns even though they are out of time?

They usually don't process, just refund the penalties and keep the determinations.
