AAT/CIMA accountant, subcontract advice?

AAT/CIMA accountant, subcontract/practice advice?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I am an AAT and CIMA qualified accountant, i did 2 years in practice and have worked as an accountany assistant for 4 years in industry, and a management accountant for the last 2.

I have been looking into going self employed, but am now maybe thinking that approaching practices to try and get some subcontract work might be a better option and a better way to transition.

Has anyone got any experience in this or any advice they could offer? Also, do you know what likely earnings would be?

Thank you

The last time I did this was in the 1990s. I did have a practice background from 1985 to 1990 but had left practice in 1990 . I returned in 1994 to do subcontract work for the firm I was with up to 1990, after I had been made redundant. (Retail clothing chain with interesting approach to advertising)

I was paid a third of the fee the firm rendered (payroll was billed as a distinct service) and my fees were only paid when the client paid-this covered vat/accounts/tax/correspondence (Pre SA)

The catch re this approach for the firm is quality control, I was a known quantity so they pretty much knew what they would get re extent of work/file completion etc for the 1/3rd fee (no audits), there must be a temptation to cut corners if paid on such a basis and therefore with an unknown there will possibly be a larger time lost re file review etc.

I suspect this is all so out of date it does not help you.
