ACA or ACA-CTA combined programme?

An insight into how the ACA-CTA is structured and how it'll affect the advanced level of ACA

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I am currently looking to begin studying ACA after finishing AAT. Having done a little research, I can see there's the option to do the ACA-CTA joint programme, and from what I understand, this would basically mean that I would not sit the ACA Business Planning paper, and instead sit a CTA paper (either Taxation of Major Corporates, or Advisory Owner Managed Business). As there is only one change from the standard ACA format but I could get two very highly respected qualifications this makes it quite appealing to me.

However, it almost sounds too good to be true. So I was wondering how important the Business Planning module would be for the ACA Advanced level modules, i.e. would I miss out on learning which would impact my ability to pass the advanced level?

If anyone has any advice, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi

Are you training with a firm at the moment? Are they (or other trainees) able to offer any advice? I would speak with some of the large training providers (such as Kaplan, BPP) to see what their experience is.

You also have to sit another CTA paper at the end of the ACA qualification and sit the Professional Responsibilities & Ethics examination

I have just started a level 7 apprenticeship doing this.

I don't think you would miss info from business planning as it is a tax paper.

The ICAEW web site has much of the info you need.

Edit: also the business planning paper has three variants (taxation, banking and insurance)
