ACCA Qualified and wish to work in Industry

Newly qualified ACCA

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I am newly qualified ACCA and have worked into accounting for smaller companies since last 6 years. I am in my mid 30's and actively looking to get into corporate or bigger companies but finding it difficult to get into bigger companies. I understand employers may not want to train someone at my age, but I am ready to start from junior level roles and build it from there, I am looking for any advise on what kind of roles I should apply for and any supporting advice.

If your ACCA qualified, why are you looking for junior roles in industry?
I would speak to some recruiters if I was you, they will know which level of accountant is getting which roles.
My gut reaction would be (dependant on you skill set from practice), financial accountant, management accountant or FC is a small/medium company, do a few years there then move up the chain.

If you're happy spending the last week of every month running around working out and journalling depn and dozens of accruals, only to reverse them all next Monday - crack on!

Why?

Where are you based?

Have you worked in practice at all?

Yes, I am based in Swindon, and I have worked in small practice 6 years ago, I do not have much experience of very busy month ends and audits, so I am trying to fill that gap, but as soon as I say this employers aren't much interested, however I am ready to take that challenge and progress...

If you are making it clear that you have no experience and are just trying to fill a CV gap then that could be the reason you have no takers. You need to think carefully about the way you sell yourself. Best way to get started might be to use some of your existing contacts, but does the practice you are working for now know that you are ready to jump ship?

Have you not made any contacts through your work with clients. Often the best way to make the move is through them because they already like you and have some idea of your attitude, work ethic and capabilities.
