Accountex: Who's going?

Accountex: Who's going?

Didn't find your answer?

AccountingWEB (including John, the editor, Rob, the deputy editor and I) is going to be at Accountex this year with its very own stand and media centre, as we're one of the exhibition's official media partners.

As such, we're interested to find out about which of our members are going, and whether you'd like to meet up.

We were provisionally thinking 4pm at our stand on the Thursday for a chat with the editors and with each other - we'd love to put faces to usernames!

Alternatively just stop by our stand at any time.

And also if you are going - who are you looking forward to seeing speak the most, or what bit of the exhibition are you most anticipating? Do you come to events such as Accountex for networking, or the CPD element?

Let us know. It'd be wonderful to meet you!

yes

I will be coming along, with a friend who I went to school with (many moons ago). We both have our own practices, me in the south and her in the north, so it gives us another excuse for a catch up.

Feebies

...I managed to get a couple of free text books last year!

It was a really good event, lots of interesting stalls, new software to consider, I'll definitely try to make it

Sorry for straying, Rachael

Though I did resist the temptation to make another comment about putting faces to names :)

I won't be going, though - too much accountancy and not enough tax for my liking.

Lot's of Tax

Just wanted to let you know there is some great Tax specific content at Accountex this year and is a growing area of the event. Please see the ATT & CIOT Tax theatre schedule http://www.accountex.co.uk/theatres/att-ciot/ and Tolley are running a workshop http://www.accountex.co.uk/theatres/tolley/ not to mention numerous other talks on capital allowance updates, VAT, R&D Investigations and much more. HMRC are at the event and many other great suppliers and experts from Tax.

It sounds fun

But the location is not conducive. I couldn't justify the time away from my desk.

I'm going

Flying down from Glasgow on the Wednesday afternoon and going to both days.

Last went at the end of 2012 but missed out last year due to the imminent arrival or our 4th kid.

Looking forward to seeing the new software that is on show as well as attending the various seminars.

Hopefully the showguide will arrive in the next week so can plan my days.

Also see there are various other exhibitions on such as;

Business Start Up

LegalEx

Business Show

Registered for them as well and will go and have a peek if have time which will probably be unlikely.

Would love to

But as usual its all set up to service the london folk, ruling us scots out - unless your prepared to spend on flights and accomodation etc. which just isn't worth it for me.

My two cents

For what it's worth, I think it's well worth the trip! From networking opportunities to discovering more about new software to hearing some great keynote speakers (including our own editor John Stokdyk), I've heard so many good reports from those who traveled to it last year.

Networking

....Yes, last year for me was all about the software (besides the 'big guns'). However, this year (Yes it looks like I will now be able to go on the Friday) I'm focusing more on networking, so particularly excited about the presence of Accounting Web at the event. (You guys do a fantastic job and your website is so useful, especially the 'Any Answers' section)

Being a self-employed freelance, I'd be interested in meeting new contacts from the Yorkshire / North East Mids regions, so if anyone wants to say hello, I'll be loitering around....

Also, being part-qualified ACCA, I'm interested in some of the other accountancy courses out there. For instance, Tolley's appear to offer diplomas in Tax, suited to people who don't have time to study for a full professional qualification. What's other people's views on such qualifications?

Tolley workshops full
There isn't enough tax - every place has gone for the Tolley offerings. More needed.

That's a shame

Well, as long as I can collar hold of one of their representatives, that will be fine for me.

But in any case, I doubt I would make it for the time it is scheduled for on the Friday as I have to travel down from Sheffield.

I do agree with a lot of the posts made thus far. Accountex really do need to offer another exhibition for the north of the country. I'd suggest Sheffield but then we are the poor relations of Manchester and Leeds!!

@ Rachael_Power; might the topic of venue location be something that Accounting Web could raise with Accountex? I would imagine that a Northern event would attract just the same number of people as it does down in London...

Why not move it around the country?

Just a shame they don't rotate it around the UK as it's inaccessible to me.  I can't justify the transport costs, time and accommodation.  It's hardly "national" when it's only readily accessible to those living in a particularly small area of the nation.  What about Birmingham's "National" exhibition centre for a more central location?  What about Glasgow or Edinburgh, Leeds or Manchester?

Why London.....

Hi

Firstly let me introduce myself, my name is Scott Hider and I am the Group Event Director of Accountex and Legalex, some may have already seen a few posts from Tom King who is my Event Manager. We thought it would be a good idea to construct a response from Accountex reference location.

Firstly, I'm glad its up for debate, it means the show is in demand!

So why was the decision made to host the event in London?

1> Excel is a muti award winning venue and chosen because of the size and relevance of the audience within 1-3 traveling hours from it. For those further away than that the railway connections are second to none with an actual train station at the venue itself.

2>  By running the show in multiple locations we would dilute the amount of exhibitors involved and the investment they make meaning that the event itself would not be of the same calibre. We have the market fully represented at the event and offer visitors a one stop shop for pretty much the entire industry, this just would not happen with diluted multiple events.

Now to look at the cost of taking a day out of the office and traveling to London.

We knew that this was going to be one of our greatest obstacles to overcome and that this would be a big commitment for those who have further to travel or are smaller operations so time out of the office has to be time well spent.

Firstly we took the decision to not charge visitors to the event. Our original plans were to charge visitors to attend this content rich trade show but we abolished this to help the "cost" argument. As such this event is now completely free of charge and from this year will contribute to your CPD requirements, we think that's a great thing no matter where you have to travel from. In addition to this we motivate our exhibitors to think about running special offers at the event which will offer the visitor great deals to be had on new and upcoming products and solutions, again this was with the cost of being out of the office in mind.

Please see the post above regarding Morgan Reach as a visitor to the event in 2012. What they have achieved since is truly remarkable and they will be returning this year to support their new 3 year plan.

I hope that the majority of you are able to find a way of attending the event and as with many others once you have visited and seen the value of the education and the incredible effort and lengths suppliers are going to, you will not be disappointed and will be visiting for years to come.

Accountex - thumbs up

OCRex was exhibiting at Accountex for the third year running. It was worth it for us. We always get to meet our customers face to face there which is nice too. It's great to meet with other exhibitors and of course meet new customers.

It was a fantastic show again this year @Tom & Scott. The accounting web stand worked really well this year too.
