I used to use Sage for everything, cost me a small fortune in comparison to what I use now.

Now we use:

Accounts and bookkeeping - VT
Tax (corporate and personal) - BTC
Payroll - Moneysoft

I find all of the above really easy to use.

PTP?

I use IRIS at the moment, but if you're after something cheap on a flexible price plan for corporation tax and personal tax, then you might try looking at PTP software.  I've always been happy with it in the past.

For payroll, it's Moneysoft all the way.

Accounting Software

Thanks for the answers.  I thought there would be a complete package ? Reluctant to use three pieces of software due to the cost.

I only have around £500 (inc vAT) to spare on Software hence why I was put off Sage who quoted me around £1700 for the whole lot

Hi Digita do an all in package which I am looking at for £65 per month for 10 accounts and 20 personal tax clients, once these numbers are exceeded your cost increases into next bank width which is 25 accounts clients and 50 personal tax which is £120 per month (you only pay pro rata if you upgrade mid way through the year.

It has a central practice management hub to manage client data reminders which is useful to a 1 man operator etc. www.digita.com

I have carried out quite a but research and the product looks ideal to me although VT is very popular to me but i have never used the product.

i used to use Sage but costs got ridiculous and product has shown a lack of development the last few years.

You will need a Payroll package though and MoneySoft is the boy for that as Sage Bureu package is too expensive unless you have a huge payroll bank to do.

let me know how you get on.

Glenn

Easy
VT for accounts, Taxcalc for sa100`s and CT600`s Moneysoft for payroll. Thats all you need. All are unlimited clients and great value

Be careful with Taxcalc as you may need to pay agin in April, so talk to all suppliers about renewal dates

If things are really tight use the HMRC site for the SA100`s for a while

you wont get integrated package for £500

I doubt you would get an integrated package that does accounts, tax (company and personal) and payroll for less than £500.

You may be able to get something if you only have a handfull of clients ie less than 10.

I use VT (unlimited clients) for accounts and taxcalc (unlimited clients) for tax and outsource my payroll work.  The VT and taxcalc costs me £660 (inc VAT) per year.  Then have the cost of my payroll which I outsource on top of that.

Why do you outsource your payroll when Moneysoft is so cheap and so good? Just wondering.......

Basically because dont know a thing about how to run a payroll.  Really should look into it as I know it must be easy given the people I have met over the years who are involved in running payroll but at the moment dont have the time or inclination to do so.

Accounting Software

It seems the general consensus is

VT - Accounts

Tax - Taxcalc

Moneysoft - Payroll

Surprising there is not one software package  that does all three and is reasonably priced.  I think Sage offers all three but is far too expensive.  Perhaps there is a market there for someone to exploit..

Accounting and Tax software

It is not just the £ cost - got to look into time advantage of integrated software - Sage does the job - get Instant Accs Production and Corporation Tax Lite - prepare accounts (very quick) click export to CT (or business tax module) and in seconds your CT comp is 90% complete.

Sage is slow and messy compared to other software

You'll get the job done much quicker with VT & TaxCalc. VT integrates with TaxCalc for personal tax, but not CT, but is still much much quicker (and less frustrating) than Sage.

Integrated software - client books/payroll/tax

Hi all,

Just establishing sole practice and grappling with software options, huge amount of reviews out there.

I'd be grateful for views on best set up to handle the following primary activity: (up to 100 clients)

- Accounts for Sole traders, partnerships & SME's

- Tax : SA's & CT - IXBRL enabled

- Option for Client maintenance of books and option for myself as superuser to view client books and do booking as well.

- Management accounting at project level

- Inventory management/Debtor management

- Document management

- Remote access

No initial need for audit.

Many thanks

anyone had problems with a large tax software company recently?

Hi,

am an accountant in practice and I have had nothing but technical issues with one such company.

Anyone experiencing the same?
